3 Ways to Ensure Your Organisation’s Goals are Fully Aligned

Updated: March 7, 2022

It should go without saying that organisations can only achieve success if their members work together towards united goals. However, this is easier said than done. Current corporate structures and cultures often leave employees feeling disconnected, unimportant, and unmotivated. Sometimes, they feel so far removed from the goal that they might not know the value of their contributions.

To help your organisation realign toward its goals, we have created this guide. In it, we will go over what you need to do as a leader in your company to ensure there is neither dissension nor dissatisfaction within the ranks.

With no further ado, here it is:

1. Give some attention to the team

While numbers and figures are an important part of any business endeavour, your meetings should not revolve entirely around these. While such discussions are necessary, there needs to be some focus on the people behind these numbers. Thank these people for how much closer they brought the organisation to its goals.

If your projects are still in infancy, talk about how the beginning of the journey matters just as much as the rest of it. Try to inspire your employees. They might not see the results of their hard work yet, but you all will in time.

2. Break the goal down into manageable chunks

The key to success in any endeavour is setting realistic goals and key results. While your long-term goals should always be in the back of your mind, you might come closer to achieving them if you break down the process into attainable sub-goals.

As an example: Say you have a social media marketing goal of a million followers in two years. This would be much more easily achieved if you break it down into phases. Perhaps it might be more realistic to reach 5000 followers by the end of the first month, 50,000 by the next quarter, and so on.

Breaking down your goals allows you to make more comprehensive strategies that are adapted to your current situation.

3. Keep the goals in mind

Whatever the plan or long-term goal might be, make sure to remind the company constantly. In the previous section, we talked about the value of breaking down goals and key results into manageable chunks. By constantly juxtaposing even the smallest tasks with the larger ambitions of the organisation, you might be able to underscore the importance of every role and every project.

It will remind employees that their work is valuable.

It can help them feel valued and prioritised if their efforts are considered important in the grand scheme of things. After all, the key to fighting demotivation and burnout is to keep the passion burning within your employees.

Final thoughts

Teamwork, clear and manageable goals, and constant communication—are the most important elements for achieving success as a company. Your objectives and key results should be aligned with each other at all times, and this is only possible if your employees work together and feel valued.
